About the Book
Map of Antigua
Many of the families at Ten Hills Farm, along Brattle Street, in Dorchester, and elsewhere in New England owned huge slave plantations in Antigua and across the Caribbean. Slave estates in Barbados, Surinam, St. Kitts... Jamaica and in tiny outposts on other islands figure in these families' histories as well. Today, the legacy of that great economic engine is visible everywhere in populations that trace their ancestors to Africa and their own histories to slave trade.
